hamware.De AT-615 Remote Tuner Mods
The hamware.de model AT-615 tuner is a full legal limit remote mounted antenna tuner.
DJ0IP describes the AT-615 as “UNIQUE: This is a Balanced-Pi Matchbox. It has a broad matching range and excellent efficiency. Unfortunately it’s price is unique. This is possibly the most expensive matchbox on the amateur radio market.”
The AT-615 consists of a remote unit to be mounted at the antenna and a control unit located in the shack. The 2 units are connected by a 25-conductor cable.
Controller Software / Hardware Mods
The basic AT-615 tuner saves the L and C memories for selected frequencies from 3 to 30 MHz. When in use an RF sensor gathers the frequency of the transmitted signal and selects the stored tuner settings accordingly. However, the RF sensor is not always able to determine the correct frequency. This is especially true when operating SSB. Dietmar, DL2SBA, has developed a new firmware version which gathers the frequency data directly from the transceiver interface.

A complete description of the controller modifications, including an addition of an opto-isolator to the tuner control line is included in:
I recommend Dietmar’s firmware and serial port modification. This provides a significant improvement and update to an excellent tuner.
Remote Head Mods
I made additional changes to the AT-615 remote head and enclosure. These included replacing the original relays with sealed units, ventilating the enclosure, aligning the stepper motor/variable capacitor and replacing the 25-pin connector.
